Our History

CLS was originally founded in 1966 as Volusia County Legal Services. Since 2004, CLS has grown to provide civil legal assistance to residents of Brevard, Citrus, Flagler, Hernando, Lake, Marion, Orange, Osceola, Putnam, Seminole, Sumter, and Volusia counties, making us one of the largest nonprofit law firms in the state. This expansion enhanced our vision for CLS, creating a cohesive regional law firm with the capacity to engage in high-impact litigation for the benefit of low-income persons, minorities, veterans, and the elderly in Central Florida.

Who funds us?

The primary sources of funding for CLS are the Legal Services Corporation, Funding Florida Legal Aid , Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), individual donors, law firms, businesses and state and local governments. Click here to learn more about how you can support CLS.
